Two full-size pickups? No problem. You'll get roughly 2–3 feet of clearance between them, which is enough to swing doors open fully and walk around comfortably. We see all kinds of setups — a sedan next to an SUV, two work trucks, a family hauler parked beside a boat on a trailer.

The 20-foot length handles vehicles up to about 18–19 feet, covering standard pickups, full-size SUVs, and most sedans with clearance left over. For reference, a Ford F-150 runs approximately 19.5 feet (depending on bed config), and a Chevrolet Tahoe comes in around 18.9 feet. Both fit.

Once you enclose the gable ends, you'll pick your door openings based on how you use the space. Two 9×8 garage doors (one per end) for drive-through access is a popular setup. A 20×20 carport needs level ground and the right anchoring system — concrete footers, asphalt anchors, or mobile home anchors, depending on your surface. The carport itself is built for extreme strength, but anchoring is what determines whether it actually performs to its rated capacity when severe weather hits.

Your site needs to be level within 3 inches across the full 20×20 footprint. More variation than that creates frame stress and can make proper assembly impossible.

For ground installations, strip away vegetation and organic material, then compact the soil or lay down a gravel base. A 4–6 inch gravel layer gives you excellent drainage, prevents settling, and keeps a clean surface under your vehicles. Asphalt installations call for specialized anchors that punch through the asphalt into the compacted base material underneath. When installed correctly, they provide solid holding strength.

Ground installations use mobile home anchors — auger-style anchors that screw deep into the soil, connected to the frame with steel cables or rods. How deep and how many depends on your soil type and local wind exposure requirements.
